New Genetic Tests for Breast Cancer Hold Promise – NY Times
According to an article in the New York Times by reporter, Andrew Pollock, Color Genomics, a Silicon Valley start-up company has developed genetic screening for breast and ovarian cancer using a saliva sample that is so inexpensive, virtually all women could be tested even if it isn’t covered by insurance. This screening provides analysis of BRCA1 and BRCA2 plus 17 other cancer-risk genes.
Should this be a viable testing method it could greatly increase the number of women who could find out if they carry a dangerous mutation of these genes thereby facilitating an earlier discussion with their doctor about the options she could consider. (click here to read full article)
