Your Stay in New york and at-home Recovery

Patients undergoing breast reconstruction surgery at our New York City-based practice, with additional specialized centers across the tri-state area, can expect varying recovery timeframes depending on the procedure type, typically requiring a stay of 7-10 days.

Upon returning home, you can expect some swelling, soreness, and bruising for 2 to 3 weeks. You may be asked to apply medications to the suture area or change bandages at home.

During your stay you can expect the following:

  • Immediate post-operative care and monitoring to ensure stable recovery and early detection of any complications.
  • Pain management strategies to alleviate discomfort and promote comfort during the early stages of recovery.
  • Wound healing observation, with regular assessments of surgical sites to monitor for signs of infection or abnormal healing.
  • Rehabilitation initiation, including gentle exercises or movements to promote circulation and prevent stiffness or muscle atrophy.
  • Complication monitoring to promptly address any issues that may arise, such as excessive bleeding or wound dehiscence.
  • Patient education and discharge planning, providing instructions on wound care, medication management, and activity restrictions during the recovery period.

  • Scheduled follow-up appointments either in-person or remotely to assess healing progress and address any issues that may arise.
